Some Paternal Ancestors of Edwin Brown (“Big Doc”) KUGLER Sr

Migrations

Big Doc's paternal ancestors originated in England, Germany and The Netherlands in the 1600s and 1700s. They boarded ships which sailed down the English Channel toward the New World. After settling in New England, on Long Island, in Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, their descendants converged on Hunterdon County, New Jersey, where they intermarried. In the 1850s lumberman George Washington Kugler left Hunterdon County to harvest timber in Caroline County, Maryland. About 1870 he moved to Gloucester County, NJ. In 1889 or 90 his, son, Frank Cannon Kugler, went to North Carolina to run the southern part of the family lumber business.
